Being true to yourself.

Me encanta cuando la gente es auténtica. Creo que la gente se deja llevar demasiado por las modas y, por eso, destaca tanto cuando alguien se sale un poquito de ese camino marcado por las tendencias. Cuando alguien es fiel a su personalidad y a sus gustos, “ese coolness” es llamativo.

How would you describe yourself at this point in your life?

Ahora mismo estoy en un comienzo nuevo de mi vida. Es mi primer año trabajando y esto me ha abierto un mundo de curiosidades, emociones y ganas de forjar mi futuro, tanto personal como profesional. Yo diría que, si me tuviera que describir en tres palabras ahora mismo, serían: curiosa, emocionada y feliz.

The Coolest advice you’ve ever been given?

“Júntate a la gente a la que te quieres parecer”.

Esta es una frase que me ha repetido siempre mi madre y no puedo estar más de acuerdo. Una cosa que para mí es muy “cool” es poder admirar a toda la gente que me rodea y aprender de todos ellos un poco cada día. Tener cerca a gente que te motive y te enseñe, de manera directa o indirecta, cómo ser mejor persona, cómo afrontar dificultades y que te abra la mente a probar o conocer cosas nuevas, para mí es un privilegio enorme.

The Coolest person you know?

Como decía antes, tengo la inmensa suerte de rodearme de gente muy cool, pero si hay personas en mi vida que destaquen por ser “cool” serían mis padres. Lo digo habitualmente: yo me declaro FAN de mis padres. Si alguien me ha inculcado el ser auténtica, han sido ellos. Son dos personas que siguen su corazón y se vuelcan al cien por cien cuando algo les apasiona, sin tener que seguir el camino establecido o cómodo. Gracias a ellos soy como soy y no me da miedo ser diferente.

Marcas como tal no tengo ninguna que destaque por encima del resto; me suelo guiar más por cuando algo me parece especial. Siempre me encanta un “made in Spain” y las cosas vintage, claro. Prácticamente casi toda mi ropa, complementos y accesorios son vintage.

The Coolest outfit for everyday?

Para mí, un everyday outfit es algo casual pero que tenga ese algo especial. En España tenemos marcas muy “cool” que son perfectas para este outfit cotidiano pero con un diseño cuidado. Cuando no quiero pensar mucho pero quiero mantener ese toque “cool”, cualquier cosa de Masscob o Beatriz Furest y mis mocasines de confianza ManolitoBasics “is the way to go”.

Para un first date, si no quieres “risk it”, algo que no falla es: tus vaqueros favoritos, camisa blanca y unas bailarinas o botas de tacón. Para dress it up y darle tu toque, me pondría un bolso y una chaqueta que le den ese punch y un must para mí: jewellery a tope.

La idea de a dónde ir en un first date siempre es complicada porque hay gente que es del team cena y otros que dicen que es “too much” para la primera vez. Un sitio perfecto para este limbo es MANERO, en la calle Claudio Coello; no puedes fallar. El sitio es muy “cool” y podéis ir a tomar algo y, si os acabáis animando, podéis picar algo. Se cena súper bien.

The Coolest place for a summer trip? What's in your suitcase?

En verano suelo ir tanto al norte como al sur de España. Estos últimos años he incorporado unos días en el campo del sur de Francia. Pero, sin duda, mi sitio favorito, al que voy todos los años aunque sean unos días, es a ver a mi familia en el sur de Inglaterra. Los veranos en Sussex son mi parte favorita. Son una combinación de días “nonstop” viendo antique shops y jardines, y días lentos en el campo leyendo, dibujando, paseando y disfrutando de los días llenos de color y también de los días de lluvia, que la verdad es que a mí me encantan porque, como dice Grannie, “it’s only water”.

Un esencial en estos viajes para los días intensos es un buen bolso como el Periyar Bag, en el que puedas guardar de todo, “because you never know”.

Being true to yourself.

I love it when people are authentic. I think people get too caught up in trends, which is why it really stands out when someone strays a little from the path dictated by those trends. When someone stays true to their personality and tastes, that “coolness” really catches your eye.

How would you describe yourself at this point in your life?

Right now, I’m at a new beginning in my life. This is my first year on the job, and it has opened up a whole new world of curiosity, excitement, and a desire to shape my future—both personally and professionally. If I had to describe myself in three words right now, I’d say: curious, excited, and happy.

The Coolest advice you’ve ever been given?

“Surround yourself with the people you want to be like.”

This is something my mother has always told me, and I couldn’t agree more. One thing I find really “cool” is being able to admire everyone around me and learn a little from each of them every day. Having people around me who motivate me and teach me—directly or indirectly—how to be a better person, how to face challenges, and who open my mind to trying or learning new things is, for me, a huge privilege.

The Coolest person you know?

As I mentioned earlier, I’m incredibly lucky to be surrounded by really cool people, but if there are any people in my life who stand out for being “cool,” it would be my parents. I say this all the time: I’m a huge FAN of my parents. If anyone has taught me to be authentic, it’s them. They’re two people who follow their hearts and give it their all when they’re passionate about something, without feeling the need to follow the established or comfortable path. Thanks to them, I am who I am, and I’m not afraid to be different.

I don't really have any specific brands that stand out above the rest; I tend to go with whatever feels special to me. I always love “Made in Spain” items and vintage pieces, of course. Practically all of my clothes, accessories, and other items are vintage.

The Coolest outfit for everyday?

For me, an everyday outfit is something casual but with that special something. In Spain, we have some really “cool” brands that are perfect for this everyday look, yet feature thoughtful designs. When I don’t want to overthink it but still want to keep that “cool” vibe, anything from Masscob or Beatriz Furest paired with my trusty ManolitoBasics loafers "is the way to go".

For a first date, if you don’t want to “risk it,” a fail-safe option is: your favorite jeans, a white shirt, and some ballet flats or heeled boots. To dress it up and add your own touch, I’d throw on a bag and a jacket to give it some oomph, and a must-have for me: tons of jewelry.

Deciding where to go on a first date is always tricky because some people are on the “dinner” team, while others say it’s “too much” for the first time. A perfect spot for this in-between situation is MANERO, on Claudio Coello Street; you can’t go wrong there. The place is really “cool,” and you can go for a drink, and if you end up feeling like it, you can grab a bite to eat. The food is amazing.

In the summer, I usually travel to both the north and south of Spain. In recent years, I’ve started spending a few days in the countryside of southern France. But without a doubt, my favorite place—where I go every year, even if it’s just for a few days—is to visit my family in the south of England. Summers in Sussex are my favorite part of the year. They’re a mix of nonstop days spent visiting antique shops and gardens, and slow days in the countryside reading, drawing, walking, and enjoying the colorful days—as well as the rainy ones, which I actually love because, as Grannie says, “it’s only water.”

An essential for these trips on busy days is a good bag like the Periyar Bag, where you can pack everything, “because you never know.”
