Patricia Ruenes

Hace años que sigo a Patricia muy de cerca, por su trabajo y por su visión. Tiene un gusto innato que me chifla, un perfil en IG en el que comparte lo que le apetece y, creo, sin ser "curated" parece que tuviera una planificación detrás de mucho esfuerzo. Eso es lo que me gusta de los perfiles que me gustan, -nunca mejor dicho-. Además, en Eye Travelling, comparte lo que considera puede ser interesante para el que puede ver a través de una pieza de arte o de ropa. Seguidla muy de cerca, no se puede ser más cool :)

What is being cool for you? How do you describe yourself today?

Creo que “cool” es una palabra descontextualizada. Para mi son las personas desenfadadas sin mucha más pretensión que su propia naturaleza, que se preocupan por su estética sin obsesionarse, sensibles a su al rededor, cultas… He tenido la suerte de encontrarme con muchas de ellas y nunca se explicarlo del todo.

Me pasa lo mismo con los sitios. Hay espacios cool que llevan siéndolo décadas, hoteles con un encanto inevitable…

No podría nombrar uno en concreto. He hecho viajes maravillosos, trabajado con marcas que llevo admirando años y editoriales de revistas que leía de pequeña.

Siempre hago el trabajo de apagar mi teléfono una semana entera en agosto y mi reflexión acaba por ser la misma: Instagram y Pinterest son una fuente inagotable de inspiración que echo de menos cuando no tengo. Aún así, cuando me harto de pantallas, pasear por La Coruña (sus tiendas, su forma de vestir, el estilo) me inspiran enormemente.

En el plano personal, una conversación larga con mi novio, mis amigas o mis padres es a veces más inspiradora y necesaria que un libro.

The Coolest city for a trip with friends?

No pensaba que me fuese a gustar tanto pero recuerdo con muchísimo cariño un viaje el año pasado con todas mis amigas a Miami. Tiene la mezcla perfecta entre playa, fiesta y moda al más puro estilo estadounidense.

The Coolest suitcase for a beach trip?

Una chaqueta o jersey para el tren/avión (mientras voy escribiendo esto he tenido que ponérmela porque el aire está a tope).

Sets de camisa y pantalón ancho / Hawaianas / Un pareo de leopardo / Algo de crochet gordo / Varios collares de diferentes tipos y muy largos como estos de The Coolest.

Por mucho que le pese a mi madre, pocas veces verás en mi maleta vestidos cortos o faldas cortas. Siempre hacer lista de cosas necesarias y no meter “por si acasos” Solo ocupan espacio innecesario.

The Coolest P’s wishlist: 

Podría llenar páginas si hablo de mis wishlists. A día de hoy, mucha prenda de lino ancha para combatir el calor horrible de Madrid, un bikini bueno y que favorezca pero que no sea minúsculo, una joya versátil y atemporal que pueda ponerme en todas las bodas que tengo, cualquier cosa de Sea New York / The Row / Lemaire, el colorete de Rhode….

De sitios, me muero por conocer Los Ángeles. Quiero ver una expo que hay en el Louvre de Alta Costura y aprovechar mi visita en París para ver a Hockney en la fundación LV. Me apetece mucho ir a Puerto Escondido. En España, quiero conocer el museo Chillida en el País Vasco y Cadaqués que iré este verano… La lista es infinita.

The Coolest places for a wine? 

Bebo entre 0 y nada así que no soy la mejor recomendando vinos. Para cocktails, me encanta el plan en Bar Cock. Para tomar algo, Richelieu, el bar más castizo y auténtico de Madrid.

La tienda de libros del Thyssen siempre tiene lecturas apetecibles. Para encontrar reliquias de editoriales de moda: La Boutique de La Prensa en García de Paredes. Podría pasarme horas.

Además, P es de La Coruña y me muero por contaros lo que quiero organizar con ella.

I've been following Patricia closely for years, both for her work and her vision. She has an innate taste that I love, a profile on IG in which she shares what she likes and, I think, without being ‘curated’ it looks like she has a lot of planning and effort behind it. That's what I like about the profiles I like, -never better said-. Also, in Eye Travelling, she shares what she thinks might be interesting for those who can see through a piece of art or clothing. What is being cool for you? How do you describe yourself today?

I think ‘cool’ is a decontextualised word. For me, they are people who are carefree without much more pretension than their own nature, who care about their aesthetics without being obsessed, sensitive to their surroundings, cultured... I've been lucky enough to meet many of them and I can never fully explain it.

The same thing happens to me with places. There are cool spaces that have been cool for decades, hotels with an unavoidable charm...

I couldn't name one in particular. I've been on wonderful trips, worked with brands I've admired for years and magazine editorials I read as a child.

I always make a point of turning off my phone for a whole week in August and my reflection ends up being the same: Instagram and Pinterest are an inexhaustible source of inspiration that I miss when I don't have any. Still, when I've had enough of screens, walking around La Coruña (its shops, the way it dresses, the style) inspires me enormously.

On a personal level, a long conversation with my boyfriend, my friends or my parents is sometimes more inspiring and necessary than a book.

The Coolest city for a trip with friends?

I didn't think I would like it so much but I remember with great affection a trip last year with all my friends to Miami. It has the perfect mix of beach, party and fashion in the purest American style.

The Coolest suitcase for a beach trip?

A jacket or jumper for the train/plane (as I'm writing this I've had to put it on because the air is so stuffy).

Shirt and wide trouser sets / Hawaiianas / A leopard pareo / Some fat crochet / Several necklaces of different types and very long ones like these from The Coolest.

As much as it pains my mother, you will rarely see short dresses or short skirts in my suitcase. Always make a list of things you need and don't pack ‘just in case’. They just take up unnecessary space.

The Coolest P’s wishlist: 

I could fill pages if I talk about my wishlists. At the moment, lots of wide linen to combat the horrible heat in Madrid, a good bikini that flatters but isn't tiny, a versatile and timeless piece of jewellery that I can wear to all the weddings I have, anything from Sea New York / The Row / Lemaire, Rhode blush....

From places, I can't wait to see Los Angeles. I want to see an exhibition at the Louvre on Haute Couture and take advantage of my visit to Paris to see Hockney at the LV foundation. I really want to go to Puerto Escondido. In Spain, I want to see the Chillida museum in the Basque Country and Cadaqués, which I will visit this summer... The list is endless.

The Coolest places for a wine? 

I drink between 0 and nothing so I'm not the best at recommending wines. For cocktails, I love the plan at Bar Cock. For a drink, Richelieu, the most authentic and traditional bar in Madrid.

The Thyssen's bookshop always has some tempting reading. For relics of fashionable publishing houses: La Boutique de La Prensa on García de Paredes. I could spend hours there.

Besides, P is from La Coruña and I can't wait to tell you what I want to organise with her.
